Alexis Berry is an Ann Arbor based freelance violist and violinist, performing regularly with Southeast Michigan classical ensembles including the Adrian, Ann Arbor, and Flint Symphony Orchestras, as well as local theater companies including the Encore Musical Theatre Company, University of Michigan’s Musical Theatre Department, U of M’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and more. She also frequently plays in varied private functions and VIP events with Midtown Strings, an all-female musicians collective. As a studio musician, Alexis has played on several pop and jazz recordings.

Classically trained, Alexis earned her Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance and graduated with honors from Michigan State University’s College of Music in 2019. She has spent multiple summers at Bowdoin International Music Festival both as a musician and member of staff.

Off stage, Alexis has spent a significant amount of time working as an orchestral librarian and in arts development. She has worked in the libraries of the National Symphony Orchestra at The Kennedy Center, Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, and MSU’s College of Music. As a proud member of MOLA (An Association of Music Performance Librarians), Alexis has participated in conferences hosted by the Berlin Philharmonic and The Cleveland Orchestra. As a development professional, she currently works with the League of American Orchestras.

Alexis can often be found writing music and recording string arrangements in her home studio. As a teacher, she maintains a private studio for piano, violin, and viola students, and teaches group lessons in local area schools.

Outside of music, Alexis enjoys outdoor adventure sports such as rock climbing and long-distance swimming.
